DC Studios’ Superman blends action, humor and heart in a very James Gunn style

DALLAS (KDAF)– The newest installment of Superman, and the first for DC Studios, balances heart-pounding action sequences with heartwarming and hilarious moments à la Director James Gunn.

The film follows Superman (David Corenswet)’s challenge of balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent. Gunn’s Superman is guided by his belief in the goodness of humankind and struggles when his own intentions are questioned. The Daily Planet’s reporter Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) works to uncover the deception of billionaire Lex Luther (Nicholas Hoult). All the while, Superman and the Justice Gang go head to head…or rather, fist to fist with extraterrestrial enemies to defend Metropolis.

The movie mixes comedic elements, fun musical gags, and complex themes, much like Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

Gunn’s take on the Kryptonian shows a Superman that’s proud to be Superman, who stands on their principles, but is faced with the challenge of wrestling with identity. However, throughout the internal and external battles, Clark Kent/Superman loves, goes through personal growth, and attempts to tame a superpowered pet. Despite being an origin story, the movie uniquely begins in the thick of the action with a powerful, yet not invincible, Superman.

The victories are hard won and a shared triumph.

Lauren Negrete sat down with Gunn and his star-studded cast to talk about the making of the film.
